How start the hospitality activity of bed and breakfast in Sicily when was born the B&B Villa Schiticchiu at Taormina
Villa Schiticchiu can not be defined as a historical home: even though the purchase of the land on which it was built dates back to fifty years ago, the structure had been built by the Oddo family in the late eighties.
The Oddo’s had chosen a typical Sicilian style, using local stones in order to comply the surrounding natural equilibrium, characterized by Mediterranean scrub and rocky ridges.
Villa Schiticchiu was the summer residence of the Oddo family: the parents and their four children used to spend here the warmer months of the year, enjoying the garden and the beaches.
The outdoor spaces favored their moments with relatives and friends, with whom they organized lunches and dinners, and on the table they never missed the flavors of Sicily.
When the children grew up and became independent, the family reunion opportunities were reduced.
One day, Francesco, one of the sons, returning from a work trip in England, suggested his parents to transform Villa Schiticchiu into an accommodation facility, a B & B.
At that time we talk about the end of the nineties the structure called B&B was still unknown in Italy, especially among not very young people.
The sons still remember their mother’s answer: "And people should sleep in my bed?"
Actually mum Maria, with her husband Marcello were the true managers of the B&B Villa Schiticchiu.
They managed it with grit and tenacity, in the name of the typical Sicilian hospitality.
The recognitions they received by the guests encouraged them, finally they were convinced of the excellent decision and made them proud of what they had built, stone by stone, over the years.
Homemade jams, craft works in straw, love of taking care of the rooms and preparing breakfast: all this has been recognized and appreciated by the guests, in a hospitable and sincere environment typical of the best schiticchiata (that is: have fun and eat toghether outdoor).
Today, after many years, the Oddo’s can smile remembering that suspicious exclamation!
In 2017 we celebrate the fifteenth year of activity: Maria and Marcello decided to cede the management to their sons,
who are now ready to continue the traditional hospitality by joining their organizational and logistical skills acquired over time.
So Villa Schiticchiu bed and breakfast and home restaurant is ready again to start a new journey with its guests and reach ambitious goals.
